Johnston County Economic Development

A Vibrant Economic Development Website for a Thriving NC County

Conveniently located in North Carolina’s Research Triangle Region, Johnston County is home to charming towns, thriving businesses, and a friendly spirit that attracts visitors and new residents alike. The county’s central location also means that top tier universities, major airports, and deepwater ports are easily accessible by car.

Johnston County has a lot to offer, which is why they turned to NMC and our longtime friends at Liaison Design Group to rework their economic development website into something that would better communicate the county’s growth and potential. We partnered to produce a new web presence that does just that.

Welcoming Design

Liaison led the creative portion of the project, and we love what they came up with. The site’s bright colors, dynamic images, and subtle background textures add memorable character and make for a polished look and feel.

On the homepage, design highlights include an ambient video banner, a set of interactive tabs, a featured testimonial block, and a live-updating Twitter integration. These features add movement and life to the page, serving the dual purpose of engaging site visitors and packing a lot of content into an efficient amount of space.

Interior pages – accessed through a handy sidebar menu – incorporate core design elements like stylized map graphics, embedded videos, and the organization’s signature teal and orange color scheme.

Overall, we were glad to see that Liaison’s designs captured the cheerful essence of Johnston County while closely following basic economic development web design best practices.

Informative Content

Content-wise, the site is packed with information about life in Johnston County, employment opportunities, and the latest news and developments. This makes it easy for site visitors to evaluate the region’s full range of offerings when considering a personal move or a business relocation.

For businesses, the unique Property Search tool streamlines the process for identifying available buildings and sites. Users can search, filter, and compare multiple entries, all while perusing key stats and viewing images of each property on an interactive map.

Many of our economic development clients utilize similar tools, so we’re familiar with a number of different integration approaches. For Johnston County, we used an iFrame to pull in their existing application and incorporate it into their updated website design.

Flexible Content Management

We brought the site to life on an intuitive WordPress base. WordPress was a great fit for this project because it allowed for a flexible, blocks-based setup that will smoothly scale with the site through any growth or expansion. Admins can simply build out new pages by selecting elements from the library of custom blocks.

As always, it was a pleasure to work with Liaison as a web development partner, and we look forward to collaborating again soon.
