Building an Engaging Website for a High-Impact Travel Nonprofit

Global Glimpse is a youth travel nonprofit that curates meaningful international experiences for high school juniors.

The organization is driven by the belief that travel is a powerful form of experiential education—one that should be accessible for students from all socioeconomic backgrounds. Working towards that goal, Global Glimpse actively breaks down barriers to travel by offering need-based scholarships, comprehensive pre-trip support, and partnerships that bring the opportunities to a diverse audience of students, teachers, and donors.

Global Glimpse’s programs are dynamic, immersive, and deeply community-oriented. With those qualities in mind, we were excited to transform the nonprofit website design into an engaging and user-friendly online destination.

Examining Strategic Goals

To build a strong project blueprint, we began by taking a deep-dive into design and content goals. Our discovery work included interviews with various stakeholders, a competitor analysis, an audit of the previous site, and a user persona exercise. We came away with several common themes that served as reference points throughout the project:

  • The site should appeal to multiple audiences. The Global Glimpse audience is multifaceted—ranging from prospective participants with limited travel experience to Fortune 500 corporate partners—so it was immediately clear that the sitemap would be a key area for improvement. Drawing from stakeholder insights and navigation best practices, we crafted a new structure that offers clear paths for learning about the organization, finding trip details, donating, partnering, and more.
  • The Global Glimpse mission should be elevated. Content-wise, we drafted foundational messaging assets to distill Global Glimpse’s mission and impact into clear takeaways for site visitors. While those points were clear internally, there was a big opportunity to highlight them on the new site to help users quickly understand the “how” and “why” of the work. 
  • The design should balance authenticity with professionalism. In terms of design and content, the site should reflect the “beyond-the-beaten-path” nature of the travel experiences without compromising on credibility around logistics and safety.

Tips for Building Websites for Multiple Target Audiences

Building a Vibrant Creative Direction

Using Global Glimpse’s established brand guide and styles, we developed a bright and friendly approach that reflects the lively spirit of their trips to Panama, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic. The designs bring the experiences to life with images and videos, colorful accents, and graphics inspired by the Global Glimpse logo.

Creating an Inclusive Web Presence

The designs prioritize inclusivity both technically and visually. On the technical side, we expanded the brand’s color palette to include ADA accessible shades of teal and orange. Visually, we worked closely with the Global Glimpse team to select photos that show a diverse selection of faces, locations, and experiences.

Web Design and ADA Accessibility Best Practices

Designed to Scale

Built on an intuitive WordPress base, the site is designed to flex and scale as the content shifts around upcoming deadlines, new partnerships, and student travel stories. In addition to standard text and image updates, admins can use the content management system to add news posts, upload testimonials, and put together entirely new layouts using a library of pre-styled blocks. This setup ensures that all pages—old and new—are on-brand and up-to-date visually.
