Betty Sutton for Congress

Congresswoman Betty Sutton came to New Media Campaigns in need of a website for her 2012 re-election campaign in Ohio’s 16th District. After the district’s lines were redrawn this year, she wanted a clean, friendly site to introduce herself to voters. Designed and developed by NMC, the site allows Sutton’s campaign team to easily share information about the Congresswoman with new constituents.

The site's homepage rotates through images of Sutton that correspond with calls to action about the campaign's latest news, hot button issues, and upcoming events.  Several calls to action are prominently featured on the homepage and throughout the site, as well as links to various social media outlets, encouraging constituents in Northeastern Ohio to further engage with the Congresswoman or contribute to her campaign. The contribute tool is integrated with NGP VAN to manage all campaign donations.

The site is focuses on tightly integrating other materials and content being created by the campaign, particularly multimedia. The video gallery page allows visitors to see all the latest videos of Sutton and play them directly on the site. The CMS makes it easy to add videos and rotate out the top “featured video” as easy as copy-and-pasting the YouTube link.

Along with the social media icons, each interior page also pulls in Sutton’s Facebook feed. Her campaign frequently leverages Facebook to connect with supporters, including Young Democrats organizations across the district, making the tool a particularly powerful addition to the website.

The clean, sophisticated design makes it easy for constituents to find relevant information on Sutton’s background and stand on policy issues. The Issues page is organized by her efforts to help specific groups of constituents, such as women and the Middle Class, to further connect her with voters. As with many political campaign websites, one of the biggest goals of the site was to keep the constituents of Ohio’s 16th District informed.
