A Statewide Campaign for Kentucky's Next Attorney General
The last name Beshear is a familiar one to residents of Kentucky as Steve Beshear has held statewide office cumulatively for more than a decade. However, this is the first campaign of Andy Beshear, the Governor's son, and it was our job to distinguish his own sterling credentials and vision for the state.
A new candidate for a new Kentucky
The campaign wanted a fresh design for this new candidate and to use imagery to help the site really stand out to visitors. The dominant element on the homepage is a picture of Andy with his wife and children with an email signup to enlist supporters. This image immediately gives voters an inside look at the candidate and makes it easy for them to get involved. Paired with the family image is the campaign tagline “Stronger Families, Safer Communities,” and a list of the campaign’s signature issues.
To help the campaign site have a unique and homespun feel, we custom designed icons for each of the core issues. Visitors are able to click on an icon to get a more detailed look at that specific issue and Andy’s plan. Highlighting these issues on the homepage with custom imagery to help them stick out is a way to make sure visitors can quickly learn about Andy’s plans for the state and see his a candidate of depth and conviction.
Blue mountains in the Bluegrass State
We took advantage the extraordinary natural beauty of the Commonwealth of Kentucky by including images from the state as backgrounds for different sections. This approach gives the design a uniquely Kentucky feel while also adding some depth to the design.
And with the campaign generating a lot of coverage, it was important to make sure social media was up front and center. You'll find a custom scrolling twitter feed that allows visitors to scroll through all of the latest news or even engage directly with the campaign on twitter.
A New Vision for Kentucky in the 21st Century
This campaign site firmly establishes Andy Beshear as a leading candidate devoted to the citizens of Kentucky. After our previous work designing the Attorney General campaign website for Mark Herring of Virginia — which was a finalist for statewide campaign site of the year — it was rewarding to work with another inspiring candidate for the same office.
