A Vibrant Website for a Community Arts Organization

Chapel Hill Community Arts & Culture is a division of the Town of Chapel Hill that promotes creativity while celebrating the area’s strong sense of community. Working closely with local artistsand community organizations, Chapel Hill Community Arts & Culture curates and implements public art installations, pop-up gallery events, lively festivals, and other types of art experiences.

Community Arts & Culture approached New Media Campaigns for a website design that would highlight their work and upcoming events. Together, we created a website that accomplishes these goals with eye catching graphics, clear communication, helpful tools, and more.

Engaging Design

The organization’s work is highly visual, so we knew that we wanted to create a similarly artful design that would grab site visitors’ attention from the get-go. On the homepage, we accomplished this with a combination of vibrant images, sharp lines, and a background texture comprised of the circles and triangles that make up the Community Arts & Culture logo. Paired with bright colors and a modern sans serif typeface, the homepage immediately establishes the organization’s strong connection with the arts.

Interior pages carry through homepage design elements while adding full-width image headers, gallery-style tabs, and colorful buttons. We were particularly aware of the organization’s need to display recent art projects, so we created a flexible Public Art page that can accommodate plenty of images without becoming cluttered or overwhelming.

Helpful Tools

To make the site as useful as it is attractive, we built in custom forms, a sortable events calendar, and an easy-to-update News center. These features ensure that visitors are able to use the website as both a place to explore local artwork and a platform for interacting with Community Arts & Culture.

Intuitive Technology

Because the organization’s projects are constantly evolving, we built the site on an adaptable WordPress base that allows for easy management of all content and images. Within the user-friendly Content Management System, site administrators can easily update event details, add news items, and refresh featured photos as new projects come to fruition.

Positive Outlook
