Examples and Best Practices for Environmental Nonprofit Website Designs

Celebrating Great Outdoors Month

June 18, 2024

At NMC, we’re proud to work with all types of organizations that are making a difference in the world. As we celebrate Great Outdoors Month this June, we’re highlighting a handful of clients that focus on sustainability, conservation, and environmental advocacy.

Like any other type of website, environmental websites should incorporate stories, details about programs and initiatives, and actionable steps that site visitors can take to get involved. It helps to pair this type of content with a clear outline of who you are, what you do, and why it matters – the classic three w’s of nonprofit website design – to ensure that you’re painting a clear picture of your goals and impact.

Design-wise, environmental sites are often great candidates for inspiring photography, vibrant video clips, and graphic elements that bring in natural textures and landscapes. This can be done in a subtle way – think abstract patterns and close-up visuals – or more obviously through large-scale images that show relevant scenery or activities. It can be helpful to put together a mood board as you think through the design vision that you’re hoping to achieve.

Environmental Website Design Examples

Over the years, we’ve worked with organizations that promote environmental stewardship in a variety of different ways, ranging from agricultural advocacy to renewable energy to tree protection and more. We’re proud to support their efforts by designing dynamic, responsive, and engaging nonprofit website design that elevate key causes and call site visitors to action.

Below are some examples of environmental website designs that we've worked on for different groups, highlighting some of the key features and best practices that help these sites stand out and convey their mission, impact, and value to visitors.
